The South Wells Avenue neighborhood contains two schools with high numbers of foreign-born students in the English-as-a-Second-Language program: Veterans Elementary and Vaughn Middle. Veterans ranks seventh among such schools for immigrant ESL students (72), and almost 60 percent of its students are in ESL. Vaughn ranks second among middle schools, with 88 immigrant ESL students.
