Gardnerville teen Rachael Lambin was named the Kohl’s Kids Who Care Scholarship Program regional winner on Wednesday.

Kohl’s will award Lambin a $1,000 college scholarship as part of the store’s nationwide effort to reward youths who perform good deeds in their community.

Lambin, 18, taught exercise and nutrition to more than 2,500 obese youth through her program, HOPE, Helping Obese People through Education.

(Wednesday’s) winners truly are role models in their local communities,” Julie Gardner, Kohl’s executive vice president and chief marketing officer said in a written statement. “By recognizing their efforts and sharing their stories through the Kohl’s Kids Who Care Scholarship Program, we hope to inspire other children and adults to volunteer and make a difference.”

As a regional winner, Lambin will be considered for one of 10 national $5,000 college scholarships. Kohl’s also will contribute $1,000 to a nonprofit organization on behalf of each national winner.

National winners will be announced at the end of July.
