Rooms going fast because of events

Some hotel rooms still are available during Hot August Nights next week, but officials suggest to act quick.

As far as Hot August Nights, it’s always an exciting time for us, and it’s always full,” said Michelle Hackman, communications manager for the Peppermill Resort Casino. “Wednesday through Saturday, we’re expecting 100 percent occupancy.”

She said few rooms are available at the Peppermill during the festivities that begin Monday, but they are sold out Thursday through Saturday.

Rooms also are available at John Ascuaga’s Nugget.

We’re getting close to getting sold out for next weekend,” said Beth Cooney, executive director of marketing for the casino-hotel.

The Sands Regency has sold out for Wednesday through Saturday.

Jay Thiel, vice president and general manager at the Sands, said he welcomes the tourism the event brings to the casino-hotel in August.

We are looking much stronger this week than we have in the past months,” Thiel said. “This weekend, we’ll be close (to capacity); next weekend, we’ll be full.”

Hot August Nights comes as the Legends Reno-Tahoe Open golf tournament continues this weekend.
