Renown hosts career day

By Cyndi Loza

High school science students can get a closer look at possible careers in health care.

The Education Collaborative will give high school seniors in the Washoe County School District a firsthand look at careers in the medical profession through the organization’s eighth annual Renown Regional Medical Center’s Hospital Career Days starting Feb 19.

The four-day event is expected to draw about 1,000 students to the hospital at 1155 Mill St.

The purpose is just to inform high schools students of different opportunities they have in health care occupations,” said Dan Davis, a spokesperson for the hospital.

Students will visit the hospital setting to learn the skills needed to pursue careers in areas including nursing, imaging, rehabilitation therapies, dietary services and laboratory analysis.

They also will have the opportunity to participate in featured tours on health care fields, a medical career fair and hands-on demonstrations including one that allows students to use surgical instruments to simulate an operation.
