Investigation continues after second threat

By Cyndi Loza

Glen Ellyn school officials still are investigating the bomb threat that was written on the wall of a boys’ bathroom at Hadley Junior High School Friday.

The threat was the second of its kind found written in a boys’ bathroom at the school in a two-week period.

According to school officials, a teacher at the school, 240 Hawthorne Blvd., Glen Ellyn, reported a bomb threat was written on the wall in the boys’ bathroom Friday. The incident was reported at the end of the day as students were being dismissed.

No explosives were found after Glen Ellyn police and school administrators searched the building and grounds. Police advised district officials students were never in danger.

Hadley Principal Chris Dransoff said the incident continues to be investigated.

We’re gathering information and as leads appear, we follow up on them,” Dransoff said.

In the meantime, district spokeswoman Julie Worthen said Hadley will be tightening up restroom procedure for students with limited times and a required pass to use the facilities.

The school is always vigilant and stresses with students the expected behavior,” Worthen said. “We also work with parents to urge them to discuss these matters with their children so that the children understand that this is a serious matter.”

Two weeks before, on Feb. 19, a Hadley student reported there was graffiti threatening to blow up the building written in a boys’ bathroom.

Worthen said there is not enough evidence to connect the two bomb threats.

We have no reason to think they’re connected but, as I said, it depends on what the investigation will turn up,” Worthen said.
