It was a golden opportunity when 17-year-old Joe Foley got ahold of the codes needed to make announcements on Spanish Springs High School’s intercom last month.

The junior used his newfound information to make announcements about parts of the student body that cannot be repeated in this publication.

It was totally worth it,” said Foley, who was suspended for three days. “I mean, what were they going to do? We had a month left of school.

I felt kind of golden about the situation.”

Foley was not alone. In the past few weeks, high school students performed a variety of pranks to wrap up the school year.

At Wooster High School, some seniors set up a 15-foot pyramid of trash cans outside their school’s gym last week. The trash cans spelled out “seniors” and were arranged during the evening.

I thought it was great,” said Wooster senior Diana Vaden, 18, of Sparks. “It looked amazing, and it was huge and you could see it from far away.”

Incline High School seniors chose to work on their tans for their senior prank. The group of seniors set up a makeshift beach party in their campus parking lot Thursday filled with beach towels, beach balls, water guns and an inflatable pool.

It’s better than releasing crickets into the school, which is what happened a couple of years ago,” said Nicole Offerdahl, 18, a senior who participated in the beach festivities.

As far as pranks go, principal John Clark said the beach party was pretty mild.

That is a great group of kids, and they made something that’s not disruptive and is not harmful,” said Clark, who allowed students who were done with their classes to stay in the parking lot and enjoy the party.

I would have come prepared if they would have told me,” joked Clark, who said he would have brought his swim trunks.

Other administrators were not as understanding as Clark.

Reno High School staff warned students not to have a senior prank this year, said Joe Harris, 17, the school’s student body president.

I can see why administrators said not to have it because, sometimes, it does get out of hand,” Harris said.

Last year, some seniors let loose chickens on campus.

It was more of a nuisance than a prank,” said Harris, who added he was not involved in the incident.
