Families invited to overnight at Cantigny

By Cyndi Loza

Families are encouraged to attend the Robert R. McCormick Museum’s third annual family overnight, “Night at the Mansion,” on Friday, April 23.

The event will be held at 6:30 p.m. in Cantigny Park, 1S151 Winfield Road in Wheaton, for children ages 5 to 10 and their parents. Planned activities include a flashlight tour of the mansion, pillowcase making and watching the movie “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian” in the historic Gold Theatre. Owls from Willowbrook Wildlife Center in Glen Ellyn will also be in attendance.

Diane Gutenkauf, director of the Robert R. McCormick Museum, said she hopes families will “get a change to experience the museum in a new way.”

They’re not a lot of places in the suburbs where you can do an overnight program like this,” Gutenkauf said. “City museums offer these overnight programs but that’s kind of a hike. We want to offer something that is as much fun but closer to home.”

Cost is $40 per person. Included in the fee are craft supplies, movie, snacks and a continental breakfast.

The event is open to the public. To register or review a list of items to bring visit www.Cantigny.org/events or call 630-260-8162. Parking will be free for “Night at the Mansion” participants.
