Diligent readers rewarded with ‘mad science’ visit

Some Reno elementary students received a Mad Science Classroom Party on Monday for their efforts in reading.

Various classrooms in the Washoe County School District won either a guest appearance by KNPB Channel 5’s cartoon characters Maya and Miguel or a science party this week for their participation in the Tune In To Kids Classroom Reading Contest.

Corbett Elementary fourth-graders, Huffaker Elementary third-graders and Mariposa Academy Charter School sixth-graders won a science party on Monday.

Grace Warner Elementary School kindergartners, Coral Academy of Science fourth-graders and Westergard Elementary School second-graders will receive a guest appearance by Maya and Miguel and a free book.

A fifth-grade class in Lena Juniper Elementary School and a third-grade class in Greenbrae Elementary School won a free nutritious lunch.

The reading contest ranked the classes by average reading time.
