4 injured after van rams Loop restaurant

By Cyndi Loza

Four people were injured after a vehicle careened into a window of a Cosi restaurant in the Loop Monday morning. A silver Honda van was driving northbound on Franklin Street when it ran a red light and collided with a black Audi on Washington Boulevard, police News Affairs spokesman Officer John Mirabelli said. The collision caused the van to swerve and hit a window of the restaurant in the 200 block of West Washington, striking two pedestrians on the sidewalk.

One of the pedestrians was bleeding from his head, according to witnesses. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and was in stable condition.

The three others injured in the accident, including the driver of the Audi, his female passenger and the second pedestrian, were taken to Stroger Hospital. Their conditions ranged from serious to good, according to Fire Department spokeswoman Eve Rodriguez.

The driver of the van, who was not injured, was cited for running a red light and having an uninsured vehicle, Mirabelli said.
